"Big Brother is watching.” We've all heard that phrase when discussing our government, no matter who's in charge. But at that time, we could at least take solace in the knowledge that there were laws and restrictions that would protect the privacy of American citizens.
Unfortunately, that solace has been stripped away over the last five years. Earlier this week, we also learned that the Department of Defense has been infiltrating "terrorist" organizations within our borders. Such "terrorist" organizations include war protestors, peaceniks, civil rights activists and those absolutely menacing Quakers. Little old ladies in Florida baking cookies and talking about being against the war is now a "terrorist threat".
And Friday, the National Security Agency (NSA) was exposed for spying on American citizens without a warrant. Apparently, this order came directly from President Bush himself. Doing this is illegal, flies in the face of our Constitution and is definitely an impeachable offense. But then again, he's done a lot of illegal and impeachable deeds since he's been in office. But with our current climate of fear and fear mongering, we will allow a President to act more like a Czar in order to "protect us from terrorism". Seems like my definition of terrorism differs from the White House.
We are going down a very dangerous path in this country. It's time that we end this culture of fear and take back our rights as Americans. As Benjamin Franklin once said, "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

War On Christmas? More Like A War On Common Sense.
Oh please. War on Christmas? You've got to be kidding me. Is this the new shiny thing the phony Christian leaders like Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and James Dobson dangle in front of their flocks in order to separate their cash from their wallets? I would say it is.
With all the problems we are having in this country, this is the most pressing issue in some Christians' minds? Are you kidding me? When I first heard this, I thought it was a joke. I thought, "Someone is doing a holiday gag or something. Maybe it's a spoof from John Stewart or something?" But to my horror and amazement, this was for real.
Happy Holidays! Season's Greetings! If you got upset by reading those last two sentences, you really need to get a grip, take a deep breath, clear your mind and turn off Fox News. With Bill O'Lielly whipping this up every night as well as some other right-wing pundits on television and radio following along, people are actually starting to believe that Jesus Christ is an underdog in America.
That's right, Jesus is a twenty-to-one underdog in the latest Vegas betting line. So send your money to Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and James Dobson, keep tuning in to Bill O'Lielly and take yourself off the Missouri "No-Call" list because you could help the economy. How so? If you buy this act, you would buy anything from a telemarketer.

The Truth Reborn
Alright, here's the deal. I've decided that what I'm going to do is post all of the letters-to-the-editor that I submit to the Columbia Missourian, Columbia Tribune and other newspapers in the state of Missouri. I may submit some of my "good ones" to major newspapers like the New York Times, L.A. Times and Chicago Tribune.
The first submission will be posted tomorrow, December 13 and it will deal with the apropo subject of "The War on Christmas". I will at the same time submit that post to the newspapers I listed above. I'll update the post to the online newspaper link if it gets published. Hopefully soon, I'll be writing weekly op-eds for the Tribune. Stay tuned. It should be fun.

Sorry for the lack of updates...
I don't want to turn my blog into a strictly news regurgitation. I want to tackle different broad topics as terrorism, Iraq, Social Security and such. Keep an eye out on this page.

Church in North Carolina Throws Out Democratic Members
A radical, fundamentalist church in East Waynesville, North Carolina has thrown out nine members of its flock. Why you ask? Because they voted for John Kerry, that's why! They feel that their tolerant views on homosexuality and abortion goes against the church doctrine so much that it merits expulsion and excommunication. Forty others have already left the church in protest.

I think it's high time these churches have their tax-exempt status revoked. If they want a war on God, let's give it to them.... right in the wallet. They've been pandered for too long while interfering in the political and now personal lives of too many people.
Here's to hoping those poor folks that were booted find a new religious home that isn't so fucked-up in the head.

Al Gore to Receive a "Webby"
It looks like one of the men that was pivotal in creating the Internet (through championing and fundraising) is going to receive a "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the 9th Annual Webby Awards.
Despite the Republican smear campaign saying that Gore stated that he "invented" the internet, Gore remains to this day a champion for the internet.
Congratulations Al! If it weren't for you, we very well may not be reading this blog entry right now.

My First Post: Proof that Bush and Blair Manipulated Facts?
It seems that Lord Goldsmith, Attorney General of the United Kingdom, apparently told Prime Minister Tony Blair that his case for going to war was "thin" and could very well be "illegal".
London Times Article
"A separate secret briefing for the meeting said Britain and America had to “create” conditions to justify a war. "
Create conditions? So basically, they lied. They lied about WMD's and lied about Saddam's capability of obtaining and using said WMD's.
Why don't people know about this? It's headline news in Europe and around the world, but we're more worried about some dumb woman having cold feet about her wedding. Liberal media, my ass.
So where does this leave us? We have a liar and murderer as President for another 3-1/2 years, 1600 American soldiers dead, 20,000-plus wounded, upwards of 100,000-plus innocent Iraqi civilians dead, a growing "insurgency", overdeployed troops, $200 billion spent and counting and a mounting debt in this country that Alan Greenspan has declared unsustainable.
So again, where does this leave us? Hoping that the Democrats win back the Congress in '06, that's where! Then we can have some REAL investigation by the House Judiciary Committee and let's get this liar out of office as soon as possible.
I know Representative John Conyers is chomping at the bit to do it too.
